Lately, I’ve been fascinated by the lengthy step by step skin care routines that are so popular among Instagram influencers and other celebrities today. Most of these are inspired by the red-hot Korean Beauty Skin Care Routine and are generally 10 products and 10 steps — seems like a lot! Just the other day I scanned one that was a full 15 steps!
By the end of the demonstration I was watching, I was exhausted. Even worse, adding up the total cost made it seem like making this a regular part of my mature skin care regimen would ensure that I would go broke. Don’t we all wish we could spend an hour each day just taking care of our face?
Too Busy for Skin Care
Like everyone else, I’m so busy that many days I just want to give up on a step by step skin care routine completely. I’m exhausted and just looking at my pillow makes me want to lay down and sleep. Unfortunately, as a skin care expert I know how detrimental it can be to neglect your skin.
Instead of adding more products and more steps to your skin care regimen, I think it’s time we simplified! Since effective skin care is the focus of my company, I can give you a few ideas to minimize your step by step skin care routine for mature skin and simplify your life.
What Kind of Skin Care Do You Need?
We all know that every day is a little bit different. Some days we need a little more TLC for our skin and other days a quick rinse and moisturize are all you can handle. Because everyone is different and each day is unique, I have a few different skin care regimens for mature skin that can carry me through the week. They include:
- The Everyday
- The Minimalist
- The Me Day
Explore each of these step by step skin care routines and decide which one is appropriate for your day.
Personalized, Everyday Skin Care
On the Ayr Skin Care blog, we have a detailed article that can guide you towards the right ingredients for your skin as well as the best way to get the most out of a basic step by step skin care routine. We believe that there are 5 steps for comprehensive skin care — cleanse, tone, treat, target, and moisturize. Whether you choose to use our products or combine them with some of the natural ingredients in your pantry, completing a mature skin care regimen twice a day will result in glowing, hydrated skin.
Step 1: Cleansing
Your skin encounters all kinds of impurities-from your environment. From smog and pollution to makeup and more, you want to cleanse your face from everything at the beginning and end of your day. It gives your skin a chance to breathe and recover.
Our favorite products for cleansing include the Calm Facial Bar and a little warm water. It’s a multi-tasker when used in the shower for time-crunched days. Every couple of days, ramp up your step by step skin care routine with a gentle double-duty exfoliating cleanser like Reveal Exfoliating Foam Facial Wash to guarantee your daily cleansing is easy, quick, and effective.
Step 2: Tone
Even the best cleansers can leave a residue, so you want to use a toner to remove anything that’s left on your skin. The right toner also provides antiseptics and additional vitamins or antioxidants. One of the best qualities of our Calm Facial Bar is its ability to cleanse and tone in one step. Increase the efficacy of our facial bar with a natural, alcohol-free witch hazel for additional toning during this step by step skin care routine.
Step 3: Treat
We all have different challenges including dry skin, acne, fine lines, oily skin, or mature skin. Perhaps you have a specialized treatment specific for your skin. While treating your face, don’t forget the rest of your skin. Hand creams, pure virgin Marula Oil, and body lotions pamper and moisturize your skin while you let your facial treatments do their work.
Step 4: Target
At Ayr Skin Care, we absolutely love serums for targeted areas. One of the best areas to target on your face is your eyes. Look for ingredients that brighten delicate skin and fit perfectly into a mature skin care regimen. Our Awaken Revitalizing Serum is blended to gently revive with biopeptides, caffeine, and probiotics — we simply can’t live without it!
Step 5: Moisturize
The purpose of moisturizers is to lock-in hydration. For a daytime step by step skin care routine, look for the best one formulated for your skin type and age. Our Pure Moisture face cream provides deep, long-lasting moisture for all skin types and is especially good to revitalize mature skin. You can also find an extra hydration boost while you sleep when you use a restorative night cream.
For daytime wear, we also recommend adding a 15 SPF or higher sunscreen before heading out the door. There are makeup brands that offer great coverage and protection. Explore our Joys and Mistakes blog to discover if DIY sunscreen is right for you.
While you should always strive to complete your five-step skin care routine, there are always a few days where you just want to fall face first into your pillow. Don’t do it!
If you absolutely can’t bring yourself to do your complete routine, you can fall back on just a two-step process. For those really tired days, make sure you still cleanse and moisturize before ending your day. Our Calm Face Bar is a really good choice here, because it does the work of two steps in one. When you use it, you technically get three of our five step by step skin care routine recommendations without actually doing anything extra.
The Me Day
We all need to indulge in more self-care. These “me” days have all the steps of our everyday skin care day, but these 5 steps are done with the additional gifts of time and luxury. The key to your Me Day Routine is to add more — more products, more moisturizing, more targeted treatments, and more relaxation. Here are some of our favorite ideas pulled from past articles and blogs:
Add A Facial
After cleansing and toning, give yourself a home facial. We have a fun how-to for making your own natural face masks such as a Red Rose & Strawberry Nourishing Mask or Matcha Antioxidant Mask. Use these recipes for your step by step skin care routine and make enough for a friend to join you too!
Eyes are a great area for focus — especially when it comes to mature skin. Close your eyes and enjoy a little upcycled luxury when you find a second use for your chamomile tea bags. You already know that chamomile makes a great anti-inflammatory, so put it to work when you refrigerate your used bags and place them over your eyes. In just a few minutes, you can expect a refreshing and effective brightening effect that targets bags and dark circles.
The Ayr Skin Care blog has tons of DIY recipes that can help you make masks and scrubs to complement your step by step skin care routine. Raid your fridge for everything from avocados and cucumber slices to honey to create delicious recipes as well as effective treatments for your skin . Make your choices easy and fun, so you can take the time to relax and enjoy.
Bye for now!
