I love this time of year. I love when the days draw in close, and we light a fire and snuggle with robes and a soft blanket. I enjoy the comforting stews and soups that come with the season, and sipping warm apple cider or coconut milk hot chocolate to stay warm and cozy.
Our family is all about cooking and baking. My daughters, Isla and Fiona, inherited the baking and cooking genes from my Scottish mother, and it is wonderful to see them creating holiday goodies to share with their friends and family. The season offers the opportunity to do something your family has always enjoyed, and to give your talents and love to others around you.
This is the time of the year to take a break from some of the electronic devices, and play a game, read a book, or listen to music instead. I like to think of it as a time of reflection, introspection, and self care...a pause, before the next New Year.
A gentle reminder too, that the holidays can be times of depression for many people who feel that they are alone and forgotten. If you have friends who have lost a loved one, or who are away from their families, or alone for any reason, I encourage you to reach out to them. How often do we think of these friends with a smile, but forget to let them know that we have been thinking of them? Take a moment or two to reach out, let them know they are not alone, and that they have been on your mind. That one moment may mean the world to them.
No matter how you celebrate this season, I urge you to take a moment to kindle the spark of light in yourself, or in others, and to shine light into the darkest places. Give a hug, share a smile, and be gentle with yourself and others. This darkest time of the winter is the time to shine light and hope and faith into your own heart, and let it shine out to the world.
I deeply appreciate each of you, and am so grateful for your support of my skin care line, and also for taking the time to read the blog and share it with others. My family and I wish you and yours a beautiful holiday season, and a happy and healthy New Year.
Happy Holidays from our family to yours!
