Happy Holidays from Ayr Skin Care
I love this time of year. I love when the days draw in close, and friends and family snuggle around fires. I see my own family spending less time on devices, and more time asking for others to join them in games that we can all play together. We bake together, cook together, and make and buy secret gifts for each other.
Our family traditions are rooted in Scotland. We enjoy making and sharing my mom’s Scottish shortbread with friends, and we love baking many other recipes perfect for our winters in California! In the evenings after a meal, we will watch a holiday movie or enjoy family games by the fire in the living room, sipping warm cider or dairy free hot chocolate.
No matter what holiday you celebrate, or how you spend these shorter days, it is a time which often becomes more introspective. In ancient times, our ancestors — no matter their religion — celebrated one thing in common: celebrating around the light. Maybe it was because the days were darker, and nights were longer, but people all around the world incorporated lights, candles, and fires around their winter celebrations.
They celebrated light as the faith that comes from knowing that the days will grow brighter again and those days will be longer and ready for planting crops. When we light a candle or gather around a fireplace we are doing more than being “festive”. We are shining light into the darkest parts of our minds and reminding ourselves to have faith that life will continue. We should be grateful for what we have and what will be in the New Year.
I know that the holidays can be dark times for many people who feel that they are alone. If you know of a friend without family or a dear co-worker that just needs to be reminded that they are not alone, I encourage you to give them a smile. If you can invite an extra person to your holiday dinner, do so. This season is about spreading love and kindness too. And if you know of someone who has forgotten what the light is for… or just needs a hug, please spread the love. I know sometimes when I feel that life is overwhelming, I hug myself, or I spend time around an animal. That pure love from a warm fuzzy puppy, for example, reminds me that we are all here to love each other.
Whether you have finished lighting the menorah, or are beginning to celebrate Christmas, or are simply gazing at the night sky with certainty that life is wonderful, we wish you a very beautiful holiday season.
We hope that you find the joy of a child within yourself, honor your past, spend time with your loved ones, and show some love to yourself. The greatest gift you can give yourself is a reminder that you are perfect just the way you are, beautiful inside and out.
Thank you for reading my ramblings this year, thank you for your support of Ayr Skin Care, and I wish from my family to yours, a very wonder-filled holiday season and a prosperous, healthy and happy New Year.
