How are my products shipped and how much does it cost?

Product Details

Where and how are your products made and packaged?

Our products are made and packaged in small artisanal batches for complete quality control in our private lab in beautiful Southern California, USA.

Why are some of your products packaged in airless containers?

Products such as serums and face creams have several benefits when the air is kept away from the contents. Currently our Awaken Revitalizing Eye Serum, Pure Moisture Nourishing Day Cream, and Restore Replenishing Night Cream are packaged in airless containers.

Because oxidation can lead to spoilage, keeping the product in an airless environment extends shelf life, and allows us to use more gentle and natural preservatives. This packaging also keeps out bacteria by reducing direct contact with the environment, as well as hands and fingers. When your bottle arrives, the pump may need to be pushed and primed before it begins dispensing. Airless jars and pumps do not have “straws” that pump up product. They work best when they are tightly sealed, so do not open them. If after pumping several times your pump does not engage, please contact us.

Do you give samples?

Yes we do! We include samples in every order. The product sample included in each order may change based on availability.
If you are concerned about how any of our products will work on your skin, we encourage you to contact us at info@ayrskincare.com.

How should I store my products?
Store products away from excess moisture, sunlight, and heat. Bars should be kept in a soap dish or on a clean, dry washcloth to extend their life.

I have a nut allergy – do you use nuts?

A high percentage of “nut” allergies are based upon an intolerance of peanut, which botanically is not a “nut.” We do not use peanuts or other legumes in any of our formulations.

We do have tree nuts and seeds in some of our products. We use marula oil, macadamia nut oil, kukui nut, almond oil, among others. Please contact us with any specific allergy related questions.

We also have coconut oil, which is identified by the US FDA as a “tree nut” for consumption labeling. We use shea butter, which is not identified as a “tree nut” by the FDA, but both of these well-tolerated nuts are low-risk allergens. Always check with your physician/allergist whenever there is a concern about nut, peanut, or any other allergy. A skin patch test is always a good idea before trying any new product.

Note: We cannot guarantee that our suppliers do not have peanuts or any other nut in their processing plants.

Are your products organic?

We use organic and carefully sourced natural ingredients, and in some products, safe synthetic ingredients. Certified organic products are identified in the ingredients list. However, it should be noted that we source only the purest natural products available, and many would likely earn the organic label if they went through the expensive certification process governed by the USDA.

Do you use preservatives?

Yes, any product with water, aloe, or other liquid in their ingredients list must have a broad spectrum preservative. This preservative addresses fungus, mold, and other microbiology “bugs.” Often, you cannot see the organisms that cause harm.

Many “natural” companies hide their preservatives in the ingredients lists — some by using the term “fragrance” which can encompass many ingredients under that title. Many products that sound great may have parabens or other unlabeled preservatives in their ingredients lists. Preservatives are commonly hidden in fragrances, botanical extracts, and more. We carefully research all of our ingredients to ensure there are no hidden preservatives. Our method is to add our own, minimal amount of preservatives, chosen to be non-irritating, naturally derived, and free from parabens and formaldehyde releasers.

Do you use synthetic products?

Yes, we actually do use carefully chosen synthetic products when appropriate. Just because ingredients have been created in a lab does not necessarily make them evil. Some synthetics, like peptides, have wonderful anti-aging properties, are safe to use, and can help rebuild and nourish the skin.
Rest assured, we’ve done all the detective work to bring you the best ingredients available. Our weekly blog addresses many of our ingredients, and de-mystifies what they are. If you have any questions on any ingredients, please contact us.

How long will my products last?

You’ll find that you don’t need to use a lot of our product to achieve beautiful results. Our products should last several months before you need to reorder them. Each of our products is labeled with its batch number, a best by open symbol on the container, and an expiration date to ensure freshness.

Are your products gluten and soy free?

As an individual struggling with allergies, our founder, Kirsten Thomas, is an anti-gluten detective. She ensures that all of the ingredients in Ayr Skin Care products are carefully researched and chosen from gluten free sources.

We also know that many grains, such as oats, can cause cross contamination, so we do not use them. Please note that Ayr Skin Care does use a small amount of rice bran oil in some formulations. We recommend that those with a gluten intolerance test a small area of the skin or check with their physician about potential reactions.

Many people who are allergic to gluten also have problems with soy. We have strict anti-soy policies when sourcing our ingredients. Finding cosmetic ingredients free of soy is a difficult challenge, particularly for tocopherol (vitamin E), but we do the work, and make sure it is soy free.

Do you use fragrances?

Ayr Skin Care never uses synthetic or artificial fragrances of any kind in our formulations or products. Instead, we let our wonderful, natural ingredients speak, or smell, for themselves. The natural aromas found in our fruit juices, butters, and floral essences are chosen for their spa-like relaxation and rejuvenation properties.

We do have a couple of products that contain essential oils in very low amounts, well below the FDA required dermal limits. If you have a problem with essential oils, please check our ingredient lists, and contact us if you have any questions.

Cruelty Free Products

Are your products cruelty free or vegan?

Ayr Skin Care is certified cruelty free and 100% vegan. Not only are our products and ingredients NEVER tested on animals, but our worldwide sourcing protocol seeks out vendors that do no harm to their environments or indigenous species.

Additionally, whenever there is an option for us to purchase one of our ingredients fair trade, we will buy it. Our company is on a mission to source ethical ingredients and to help local communities where those ingredients are harvested, like our Virgin Marula Oil, which is produced by a woman’s co-op in South Africa and supports the entire village.
